The reason being is because I felt there was a real lack of variety when it came to ranged weapons, or weapons in general in Minecraft. The musket is merely just a glorified bow, it will never be a one shit kill at full health and the reload times will always be huge with the same range as a bow. To add to that, you will need a lot of gunpowder to make the ammunition and the gun itself so I wouldn't be surprised if a rich player only had about 4 or 5 leadshots for his musket.

I think it would be cool to have some items that are VERY hard to make and very powerful. like a concentrated Diamond sword:
